Mr Graham King

As Principal of Virginia Preparatory School, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our school website and we thank you for taking the time to visit. We hope to provide you with some useful information about our school and to give you an insight into the wealth of experiences we offer our children.

Virginia Preparatory School opened its doors for the first time on 21 January 1958 with 102 pupils. Since then, the number on the roll has increased to approximately 600 pupils. The school caters for children from Grade 4 to Grade 7 with an average class sizes of 28, and traditionally serves the communities of Glenashley, Virginia, La Lucia, Glenhills, Glen Anil and Sunningdale.

Virginia Preparatory School is widely regarded in the Durban North area as a centre of Academic excellence. The school aims to create an atmosphere that is conducive to providing well-balanced pupils with a strong academic base from which to launch into life. To ensure this, our children receive a structured and carefully planned Academic programme from a motivated, dedicated and enthusiastic team of professional educators, in a caring and supportive environment.

Constant positive reinforcement ensures that we build self-esteem and a healthy self-image. Our Academic programme is designed to cater for the various needs of all our pupils. At Virginia, every child and teacher is encouraged to display the passion and motivation that is required for success and we endeavour to provide each pupil with a curriculum which both challenges and inspires them to reach their individual potential.

Our aim is to offer all our pupils a well-rounded education in a warm, caring environment. Indiscriminate participation is encouraged to ensure the well-being and happiness of each and every pupil in our school.

Virginia Preparatory School is inclusive in every sense of the word, where the Cultural, Sporting, Academic and other successes of all of our pupils and staff are proudly celebrated together. Our pupils have a very strong sense of pride in our school, which is demonstrated in their respectful and courteous behaviour towards others, both in school and outside, and their willingness to advance and promote our school.

Our facilities are superb, the management of the school is dynamic and creative, the teachers are highly motivated and we enjoy the expertise of a committed group of parents on our Governing Body. Our school is a vibrant and progressive educational institution that aims to provide the best possible education to the pupils under its care set within the parameters of sound values and a disciplined environment. Our professional staff are committed to making Virginia the Primary School of choice in Durban North. It is our objective to provide our pupils with the opportunity to serve, to lead, and to realize their potential in all spheres so that they can take their place and succeed in the modern world.

In our school, it is our aim that our children know that they are important, that they feel valued and respected and leave here happy every afternoon. They are allowed to grow and mature in a safe, creative and holistic environment that is constantly changing to meet their needs.
